Families today have a new role: helping children behave safely and responsibly when they’re using social media. Additionally, families and teachers need to help students be good digital citizens.
They both need to support students in using the internet in ways that are safe, responsible, and appropriate. They also help students follow the rules and act in ways that lead to effective digital learning.
Below you will find the digital citizenship, family and student media guidelines for students 12 years old and younger.
The Student Social Media Guidelines focus on these areas:
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, the New York City Department of Education issued thousands of iPads to students in need to access their education while working remote. As we have transitioned back to the classroom, iPads are still being offered to students. All new admits to the NYC DOE are eligible for iPads, if your child is in need of an iPad. Please contact your child’s teacher.
Be mindful, this is not a quick process and can take several months. As of July 1, 2023, all NYC DOE issued iPads have had cellular service removed, they are only able to access internet via Wi-Fi.
Please see the following links from the NYC DOE for assistance with all NYC DOE issued Devices and Support:
SupportHub or Call 718-935-5100 for assistance, someone will be able to help.
For a Cracked Screen or Password Recovery help only, please notify your child’s teacher, all other iPad issues, please contact the SupportHub directly for assistance. As of May 2023, not all cracked screens are being repaired and are resulting in a bill sent directly to user.
Device Returns
Devices Must Be Returned
If you are leaving the NYC DOE for a non-DOE school, including a Charter School, private school or a school out of New York City, or the state, all NYC DOE issued devices, including iPads must be returned. In the case of a return, please clearly label your child’s device with their first and last name, class and return all chargers and cases.
Please bring all returned devices to either Ms Reyes or Ms Cuesta in the Main Office Room 134 to ensure they are properly turned in. Do not leave at the Security Desk or send in with your child
Devices are Kept
If you are graduating P.S. 143 or transferring to another public school in the NYC DOE, your iPad travels with you.
Once your child is discharged and enrolled in their new school, the iPad will enroll in the new school’s server and become part of that school’s inventory.
