Mission

Who we are and what we believe!

The Louis Armstrong School fosters the linguistic and academic development of all scholars in our learning community.

We establish a linguistically and culturally rich community of learning where students are encouraged to take intellectual risks in a compassionate, inclusive, safe, and rewarding environment.

Our instructional practices utilize a variety of research based approaches to provide meaningful, authentic instruction appropriate for the diverse needs of our student body.

Providing multiple paths to success, incorporating scaffolds, and using rich and varied resources helps students strengthen their understanding of the content across all subject areas. Together, we adapt, create, engage, nurture, advocate, support, serve, and love.

We stand firm that all students can achieve success and celebrate the collective and individual milestones of our children.

Vision

What we are setting out to achieve!

We strive to continuously participate, share, and help one another cultivate an environment that is supportive of English language learners, bilingualism, students with disabilities, and our diverse community as a whole.

Creating a positive atmosphere for adults and children to flourish together is our shared goal and we are confident that our commitment, expertise, passion, and persevering attitude will create brighter outcomes and futures.  The commitment to our students, our co-workers, and our school is evident from our actions and we are proud to be lions. We roar with pride because lions never give up!

Priority Focus Statement

At PS143Q,

our mission is to provide every student with access to grade-level skills and topics. Educators will design instruction across all grades, content areas, and academic settings, incorporating appropriate scaffolds to support students in mastering standards-based skills.

Instruction will adhere to thoughtful pacing, evidenced through effective lesson planning and instructional practices aligned with Danielson Framework components 1a and 1e.

Teachers will embody the “warm demander” approach, fostering student growth through encouragement, inspiration, and accountability to high standards.

Our goals that we need our parents to help us meet!

We have big goals for our learning community, and we need your support to ensure they come true! While we have MANY goals we work towards, here are the main ones we need your help with! Partnering with you, yes you, will help your child and our whole entire learning community!

Goal #1:

Perfect attendance and timeliness

We need your child to show up to school every single day! To learn more, please review our attendance policy here.

Kindly note: The school day promptly starts at 8:10 A.M. Our doors open between 8:00 A.M. and 8:05 A.M. to greet our students for the day. Instruction begins immediately, and any child entering our school after 8:05 A.M. will be marked late.

Goal #2:

We want all our children to read on grade level so they have bright futures!

The school day is filled with a lot of reading, writing, mathematics, character development, science, the arts, and MORE. As a result, there isn’t enough time to provide each child with the opportunity to read leisurely which is essential. Please encourage your child to complete their reading logs and assignments at home. Read with them each night and on the weekend as often as possible. It is their winning lotto ticket to success! We will support you throughout the year with this goal, so stay tuned to our website for details.

Goal #3:

Partner with Us

We LOVE our parents! We know your job is very demanding and we also know that sometimes it is hard to get support or understand how to help your child in school. No worries, you are NOT alone. We are always here to address your concerns. Come to our monthly PTA meetings, coffee with the principal, and school-wide events. When staff, parents, students and families come together, our kids win!
