Traditions of the Pride

Special Events

Our school’s commitment to community support was beautifully exemplified through the heartwarming parent engagement activity of hosting a holiday party on Christmas Day for families experiencing hardship.

This special event aimed to bring joy and festive cheer to those facing challenges during the holiday season.

Families, teachers, and school staff came together in the spirit of generosity, creating a warm and welcoming environment where everyone could share in the joy of the holidays.

Pumpkin Patch

Every October, our school yard is transformed into a fall paradise complete with petting zoo, hay rides and pumpkin patch for our students.

For many of our scholars, this is the first time they are experiencing fall festivities, and it is a great way to immerse them in the seasonal fun. All students leave with a pumpkin and a huge smile.

Hispanic Heritage Month

At P.S. 143Q, we proudly celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic communities.

Our students engage in meaningful learning experiences that explore music, dance, food, and history while celebrating the multilingual abilities of our proud Lions and Cubs. It’s a joyful time of learning, pride, and cultural appreciation across our school community.

STAR CELEBRATION

Our Star Celebration honors the outstanding academic achievements of our Cubs!

Students who earned a Level 4 on the NYS ELA and Math exams are recognized with special awards in front of their peers and families. We invite families to join us for an evening of celebration, featuring delicious food, music, and dancing—a joyful tribute to the hard work and success of our shining stars!

Thanksgiving

Each Thanksgiving, P.S. 143Q comes together in the spirit of gratitude and giving.

We host a special gathering to support our families in need by providing warm, hearty meals and a welcoming space to celebrate the season. It’s a meaningful tradition that reflects the compassion, unity, and care that define our school community.

Christmas

At P.S. 143Q, the holiday season is a time of giving, compassion, and community.

Each year, we support our families in need by providing warm meals, thoughtful Christmas gifts, and a joyful celebration filled with music, laughter, and love. It’s a beautiful reminder of the strength and kindness within our school community—and the magic of coming together to uplift one another.

Winter Wonderland

As the temperature drops and the holiday season approaches, our school yard is transformed into a winter wonderland.

Many of our scholars are experiencing winter and colder weather for the first time in their lives, so what is a better way than ice skating, a train ride, some bounce houses and a good old-fashioned mechanical reindeer ride. It may be cold outside, but we have so much fun we don’t feel it for a second.

School Wellness Events

Our School Wellness Events bring students, staff, and families together to learn, grow, and make a positive impact—both personally and globally.

Through hands-on activities and engaging workshops, families explore topics like environmental care, renewable energy, water conservation, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning. These events are designed to raise awareness, build healthy habits, and strengthen our shared commitment to a more sustainable and compassionate community.

Multicultural Festival

Our Multicultural Fair is a vibrant, schoolwide celebration that showcases the diverse backgrounds and global roots of our school community.

Families, students, and staff come together to share traditions, clothing, music, and cuisine from around the world. The school is transformed into cultural exhibits, and the event is filled with performances, interactive activities, and opportunities to learn from one another in a spirit of unity and pride.

Civics Week

Civics Week at P.S. 143Q empowers students to become active, informed members of their community.

Throughout the week, students learn about voting, the roles of elected officials, and the importance of civic engagement. They write and present speeches on issues that matter to them, create awareness posters, and participate in activities that build leadership and advocacy skills. It’s a powerful celebration of student voice and the impact young students can have on their world.

Color Run 2023

Imagine 1,600 scholars dancing and running through rainbows of color, the sight is something incredible to behold.

This all day event starts with a dance party, culminates with a massive run around the school where students run through rainbows of powder. Everybody has a blast and the event is capped off with several bounce houses and inflatables. It is a fun and amazing way to cap off the school year.

Color Run 2024

5th Grade Senior Trip

Change Tomorrow Today 2024

We take great pride in giving them a memorable send-off.

As they step into the next chapter of their journey. This year, we celebrated with an unforgettable boat trip around New York Harbor, cruising past the Statue of Liberty and back to Jamaica Bay. Aboard a party boat, our scholars enjoyed a dance party and lunch, celebrating their achievements with music, laughter, and joy as they danced their way into Middle School.

Just a few days later, they proudly walked across the stage, earning their diplomas and officially graduating.

Congratulations to all of our graduates—we are so proud of you!
